TRICE 2 Observations of Low?Energy Magnetospheric Ions Within the Cusp

چکیده
On December 08, 2018 the Twin Rocket Investigation of Cusp Electrodynamics 2 (TRICE 2) mission was successfully launched. The consisted two sounding rockets, each carrying a payload capable measuring electron and ion distributions, electric magnetic fields, plasma waves occurring in northern magnetospheric cusp. This study highlights wave observations obtained by TRICE cusp from multiscale (MMS) spacecraft at low-latitude magnetopause hours prior to traversal Within cusp, typical features were observed, that is, energy-latitude dispersion injected magnetosheath plasma. However, lower energy population also measured near equatorward edge on open field lines. Pitch-angle distributions low-energy ions suggest this origin, not ionospheric upflows. Data MMS show counterstreaming present outer magnetosphere boundary layer similar energies those observed Correlations between within broadband extremely low frequency filled flux tube may have undergone wave-particle interactions. These interactions cause pitch-angle scattering closer loss cone, thereby allowing them precipitate into be rockets.

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics Cassini plasma observations of Saturn’s magnetospheric cusp
The magnetospheric cusp is a funnel-shaped region where shocked solar wind plasma is able to enter the high-latitude magnetosphere via the process of magnetic reconnection. The plasma observations include various cusp signatures such as ion energy dispersions and diamagnetic effects. We present an overview analysis of cusp plasma observations at the Saturnian magnetosphere from the Cassini spac...
متن کاملEnergetic particle sounding of the magnetospheric cusp with ISEE-1
Observations on 30 October 1978 show the ISEE1 spacecraft passing though the high-altitude dayside northern magnetospheric cusp region from roughly 16:00 to 18:30 UT, during a slow solar wind period (∼380 km/s). More than two orders of magnitude enhancements of the cusp energetic particle (CEP) fluxes were observed along with a depressed and turbulent local magnetic field. The observed variatio...
متن کاملIonospheric origin of magnetospheric O+ ions
Flows of thermal atomic oxygen (0 +) ions are deduced from topside ionospheric plasma density profiles. The mean flux within most of the polar cap is of the order of lO 12 m -2 s-l, a figure which is consistent with both theoretical and experimental estimates of the light ion at . polar wind eater altitudes Larger flows (up to 6 x lOl•m-2s-1) are observed n ar the poleward edge of the night-sid...
متن کاملheterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings
from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...
Spatial distribution of upstream magnetospheric 350 keV ions
We present for the ®rst time a statistical study of 350 keV ion events of a magnetospheric origin upstream from Earth's bow shock. The statistical analysis of the 50±220 keV ion events observed by the IMP-8 spacecraft shows: (1) a dawn±dusk asymmetry in ion distributions, with most events and lower intensities upstream from the quasi-parallel pre-dawn side (4 LT± 6 LT) of the bow shock, (2) hig...
